Summary
This article lists the most frequent causes of the scanning problems,
and troubleshooting steps to resolve them.
Error Message
Barcode scanner can not recognize the barcode, or gives the wrong
results.
Cause
There are several causes. Follow the next steps to troubleshoot.
1. Make sure you have the barcode fonts installed. Start control panel,
then double click the fonts folder. Examine the font names. You
should be able to find Morovia fonts you installed. If not, re-run the
setup.
2. Check your barcode reader. Some barcode reader needs additional
configuration. For example, Code 39 has three modes: normal, Mod 43
and full ASCII. To read the barcode properly you need to configure the
reader properly. If you scanner is configured as Mod
43 mode but the barcode printed does not have a
check digit, the barcode reader will think it is invalid.
Make sure you are able to scan the samples provided by the scanner
manufacturer.
3. Check the font string. You may use Fontpal to double check the font
string you created in your application. Many symbologies require check
characters and start/stop characters. Read our font specification and
barcode specification (at our learning center). Make sure you understand
them.
4. Check the font size. We recommend you use our fonts at point
size 12 (some fontware products may work at a different size). Print
the symbol at point size 12 and scan it. Remember that most of scanners
requires the minimum bar width greater than 7 mils, that is approximately 8
points.
5. Check the printer. We do not recommend to use barcode fonts with a
printer under 150 dpi.
6. Check the material. Material needs to have strong contrast.
